With only a day before we left for 2 weeks, you’d think we couldn’t possibly add anything else to our schedule, but that
just wasn’t case. In addition to driving around town picking up gear, business cards and another batch of #goodplaids the tour, we decided to schedule last-minute interviews with DaytonMostMetro and WYSO that showed off all the Dayton awesomeness in the air.
Two of my favorite journalists at two of my favorite media platforms in Dayton, Brooke Medlin (DMM) and Juliet Fromholt (WYSO) were both really intrigued by the GWTF project and set up interviews immediately. Brooke was able to join us for the kickoff class and even picked up one of the Purple Boatnecks that night! We wanted to make sure we met with both of them before we left so they could start spreading the word while we were traveling, so in between a million
errands, we met with Brooke over at PY and told her all about what we were doing. It was great to give her the back story and future plans for the interview, given that she has been able to see the growth of our collaboration. Her husband is playing with The Motels Beds down in SXSW by so got to chat about the trip and all the excitement we were in for. Brooke happens to be a brilliant photographer so we asked her if we could take a could extra photos during the interview to use for online sales of the GWFT sweatshirts.
Tori and I were both pretty new to the “apparel biz” so brooke gave us some expert advice on how to make em available to the masses over a cup of coffee from Press. I picked up one of Janelle’s “Gem City” shirts to add to my Dayton Rep collection. (Photos to come.) Also, keep your eyes peels for the DMM article coming out next week while we are down at the festival!
Thoroughly caffeinated we continued to pack and organize for tour before we ran over to Yellow Springs to Meet with Juliet Fromholt and Gladgirl Shelly for their Wed 8-11 show, Kaleidoscope on WYSO. I’ve done a couple interviews
with Juliet and Niki on the show since coming back from the cruise and even guest host on the station from time to time. It seemed fitting to come talk with them about all this music and yoga We’ve been up to. I had my good friend and musical collaborator, Lauren Eylise, join me for a couple songs and to talk about our showing on March 23rd in Dayton. If you haven’t heard “Lo” and I perform together, you are in for a treat. Stay tuned for some exciting music and videos from the two of us…
The second half of the interview was with Tori. We gave juliet the full story about how this project go started, what its all about and where were planning on taking it over the next couple of months. You can listen to the full interview here! They liked it so much they aired it again on WYSO weekend. Im proud to have done a couple interviews/shows/fundrives in the soon to be old building. Can’t wait to see the amazing things WYSO will do when the move on up to the new studio in the Spring.
After the interviews we headed home to keep packing for our “intended” 12:00 departure the next day….
Again, we are still blown away with everyone’s response to the GWTF swag, and its such a great way to support our travels and get our name out there. THANKS For helping out.
