Vinyasa is movement coordinated with and informed by steady, even breath. Flowing series of postures open, strengthen and detoxify the body and focus the mind. Sequences are physically and mentally challenging, yet accessible and rewarding. Students are encouraged to use their asana (posture), pranayama (breath/energy) and meditation practices as a tool for self-inquiry, as informed by the traditional principles and practices of the Ashtanga system (see below). Prominent Power Vinyasa teachers include Baron Baptiste (Baptiste Power Vinyasa), Beryl Bender Birch and Bryan Kest.
Sunday Beginners Series
This six-week course is specially designed for those who are brand-new to yoga, have minimal experience or want to review fundamentals. Learn the basics of Power Vinyasa and elements common to both Ashtanga and Power Vinyasa. Posture modifications accommodate most body types/fitness levels. Students will enjoy increased strength, flexibility, balance and mental focus. Class size is limited to allow for individualized instruction. Spaces are held for each session upon receipt of $75 tuition, which includes one drop-in class on our regular schedule upon completion. *Please note that missed classes may not be ‘held over’ to the next session. One missed class per six-week session may be made up in a weekly drop-in class.
Vinyasa Basics
See above description. No pre-registration required. Basic Power Vinyasa flow with modifications and exploration of key postures / alignment principles.
Power Vinyasa
Appropriate for beginners and all levels. Challenging but accessible sequences strengthen and open the body. Emphasis on breath awareness promotes a meditative state. Modifications and gentle assists / adjustments make postures appropriate for all. The room is heated to at least 85F for safe, deep opening and plenty of cleansing sweat. Bring a Mysore rug and/or towels! Familiarity with surya namaskara (sun salutations) and basic standing poses recommended.
Power Hour
See above: 60 minutes of breath + sweat!
Deep Release Vinyasa
A slower pace and high heat (90F) facilitate safe, deep stretching and release of tension and toxins. Postures will be held longer in this breath-led, alignment-focused class. Students will be encouraged to experience poses with close attention to sensation and breath, and to modify and/or deepen mindfully. Expect a well-rounded, relaxing-but-challenging practice. For all levels except brand-new beginners.
